CIBC Mellon Fund Accounting Team Wins Excellence in Operations Award for Decision Intelligence-Led Modernization
EmitenTrust.com TORONTO, Oct. 16, 2026 /CNW/ -- CIBC Mellon today announced that its Fund Accounting team has received the Excellence in Operations award at the ActiveOps Awards 2026, recognizing the team's work to modernize a complex, high-volume operation through decision intelligence, targeted automation and process redesign.
CIBC Mellon's Pension Benefit Services team was also named a finalist for the Operations Team of the Year award.
Analysis of Fund Accounting workflows found that reconciliation activities accounted for approximately 40 per cent of fund accountants' time, representing more than 10,000 hours of effort each month. Using decision intelligence to understand where work was concentrated, the team was able to prioritize targeted changes to workflows and automation, supporting greater consistency, control and scalability as operational demands continue to evolve.
"The most important part of modernization is understanding the work before deciding where technology should be applied," said Casey White, Assistant Vice President, Fund Accounting, CIBC Mellon. "Our Fund Accounting team has built that discipline into how we operate, using data to better understand workflows, identify where change can have the greatest impact and apply automation in a targeted way. The result is a more disciplined operating model that strengthens control, supports consistent service delivery and helps us continue evolving alongside the needs of our clients. This recognition reflects the expertise and commitment of the team behind that work."
"This recognition reflects the expertise of our Fund Accounting teams and the effective application of decision intelligence and technology to strengthen our operations," said Jeremy Hulme, Vice President, Operational Excellence & Transformation, Client Service Delivery, CIBC Mellon. "The combination of advanced capabilities, meaningful data and deep operational knowledge is enabling CIBC Mellon to evolve our operating model in a more informed and measurable way."
The approach reflects a broader shift from treating automation as a series of individual technology implementations toward using decision intelligence as an ongoing management discipline. Operational data continues to be used following implementation to assess outcomes, identify new opportunities for improvement and inform how people, processes and technology evolve together. These principles are explored further in CIBC Mellon's paper, Intelligence and Reconciliation Optimization in Investment Operations.
