EmitenTrust.com Selection supports preparation of a construction permit application to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission

HOUSTON, Oct. 14, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Deployable Energy today announced that it selected Sargent & Lundy, the nation's leading nuclear engineering design firm, to provide engineering and licensing support for the company's Unity-1 microreactor.

The collaboration supports Deployable Energy's planned Construction Permit Application (CPA) submittal to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). Working closely with Deployable Energy's engineering and licensing staff, Sargent & Lundy is supporting Deployable Energy's development of the Unity-1 safe shutdown and radiological analyses, development of initial system designs and preparation of the Preliminary Safety Analysis Report to advance the NRC licensing process.

"Sargent & Lundy brings decades of nuclear engineering and licensing experience that will strengthen our path toward a construction permit application. This collaboration reflects the caliber of partners we are building around Unity-1," said Deployable Energy Co-Founder and CEO Bobby Gallagher.

The Unity-1 microreactor is a 1-MWe nuclear battery designed for manufacturability and rapid deployment. It uses standard fuels, materials and industrial processes already available at commercial scale. The result is a system that can be produced in volume, deployed quickly and operated reliably across a wide range of applications. Earlier this year, Unity-1 completed a zero-power fueled criticality demonstration, meeting a July 4 deadline in a presidential executive order for three reactors to reach a self-sustaining fission chain reaction.

"Collaborating with Deployable Energy on the Unity-1 microreactor continues our legacy as a pioneer in the commercial nuclear industry," said Sargent & Lundy Chief Nuclear Officer Shiven Sulkar. "Sargent & Lundy's expertise in nuclear plant design and licensing provides a critical role in advancing Deployable Energy's strategy to commercial operation."

Work under the engagement is underway, with Deployable Energy targeting submittal of the Unity-1 construction permit application to the NRC as part of its broader development and licensing timeline.
