EmitenTrust.com OTTAWA, ON, Oct. 6, 2026 /CNW/ -- The Canadian Medical Association (CMA) launched today "Healthy Economy," a national public campaign inviting Canadians to add their voices in support of making health care a priority in the next federal budget.

With a focus on trade and other measures to grow Canada's economy, the campaign reinforces the position of Canada's doctors that the foundation of a healthy economy starts with healthy Canadians. As the federal budget takes shape, the CMA is encouraging Canadians to consider health care not only as an expense, but as an investment in the strength of families, workplaces and communities.

"Every day, physicians see how closely our physical and mental health is tied to our economic well-being," said Dr. Bolu Ogunyemi, CMA President. "When people can get timely care, they can work, care for their families and contribute to their communities. Investing in health is investing in Canada's future. "

Research from Deloitte Canada estimates that poor health and caregiving pressures on workers cost the Canadian economy more than $100 billion in lost output in 2025. The same research suggests that reducing health related barriers to work by 25% could unlock more than $25 billion in economic gains each year.

"Canada's health care system is recognized worldwide as a core benefit of being Canadian," added Dr. Ogunyemi. "The federal budget is a moment for government to weigh competing priorities, and we believe there is a strong, constructive case to be made for investment in health care."

The campaign invites parents, caregivers, workers, health professionals and concerned Canadians to show their support for investment in health care, and to share the message through their own networks.  Canadians can join Canada's doctors in this initiative by visiting healthyeconomy.ca.
